Checkmate – Outside Wheel Check Tool

Versatile, accurate and easy to use – the new wheel check tool from Cobra Framebuilding will help you build better bikes.

The tool connects to an Anvil Bike Works style dummy axle – either front or rear specs. (Dummy axles used with Cobra Tooling and sold by Paragon Machine Works are Anvil spec.)

Interchangeable end attachments include:

• Tire Dummy Holder
• Cantilever Brake Stud Holder
• Bridge Tube Holder

The Tire Dummy Holder:

• 3D printed tire dummies allow you to both visualize clearances AND check for center
• The tool ships with 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65 and 70mm tire dummies
• Print files for tire dummies are available here.
• Print files for Extra Large tire dummies are available here.
• The tool’s MM Scale reads directly the distance from axle CL to tire outside radius – whether you’re using front or rear spec dummy axles and regardless of the tire dummy spec

Cantilever Brake Stud Holder:

• Holds brake mounting studs/bosses for cantilever brakes, v-brakes, 990 brakes, Paul Racer brakes, and probably others
• Adjustable for centerline from 40mm to 110mm
• The tool’s MM Scale reads directly the distance from axle CL to brake stud tips – whether you’re using front or rear spec dummy axles and regardless of the brake stud angle

Bridge Tube Holder:

• This attachment can hold brake bridges, seat stay and chainstay bridges, rack tubing, and other various things.
• The tool’s MM Scale reads directly the distance from axle CL to pincher center – whether you’re using front or rear spec dummy axles and regardless of the tube diameter
• Tube diameter clamping range is about 7-25mm or .25-1″
